In an article highlighting the results of the Chicago Lawyer 2017 Firm Diversity Survey, Moses Suarez provides insight on the new standard of workplace excellence for the legal profession.

While there has been a move for law firms to form diversity committees, there has not been much involvement from the committee once it has been developed. Moses states it all comes down to one simple question: “What do you do after forming your diversity committee?”

Law firms develop committees as a way to improve their firm and how representative of society it is. However, as Moses points out, most people do not realize that these attorneys who are members of the committees are doing so on top of their regular job requirements. That means: more time, more energy, and more money.

Moses wants to see the legal profession take full advantage of the potential of diversity committees, where firms are dedicating funds and other resources to diversity training for attorneys so that “you ensure they are well-equipped to be the best attorneys they can be.”
